Decisions, Decisions, Decisions... Oh -- they are so tough to make. There is so much I want to do to my Jeep. There are so many places I want to see. And like everyone else there is so little money. So each decision must be thought out carefully.
My last post I wrote about my thoughts of just building up the under belly of my Jeep and focusing on my driving skills. Not knowing where to begin with this type of transformation I crawled underneath her and cringed a little.
There were a lot of scratches, scrapes and dings. These trail markings were starting to rust which worried me a little.
It was suggested that I paint these skid plates. So... I headed out to Napa Auto Parts and they suggested two items that I should use.
Permatex Heavy-Duty Rubberized Undercoating & Permatex Rust Treatment
I headed back home and began the process of getting the undercarriage ready for her mani-pedi. Note: a mani-pedi is a manicure and pedicure -- getting your nails cleaned up and painted.
I began with a little belly scrub...
...while I was at it I washed to exterior too. Once the Jeep was dry I crawled underneath and applied the rust spray. This spray takes 24 hours to set. So, I had a few minutes before my kids got home from school. I decided to test out this rubberized undercoating. I was told it was black which was important to keep the look underneath the Jeep the same.
I tested out the spray on one of the brackets from my stock side steps. Yikes...
Normally, I don't follow the directions by testing out the product, any product, in an inconspicuous place. Well... a great suggestion from a Jeep friend saved me a lot of agony and frustration. I really don't like the look of this product for underneath my Jeep. I am looking for something a little smoother -- cleaner looking.
This Jeeper also suggested I use a black spray paint. So I ordered two cans on Amazon.
Well it looks like everyone is ordering this product. Mine is on back order so it looks like I'll be staking out my mailbox again.
Stay tuned for part two of Project Under Belly.
