Warrior Dash Here I Come!
I have started running again after a three month hiatus. I finally got back out on the road last week and so far all is going well. KNOCK ON WOOD!!! Last November I ran the 10K Turkey Chase at Thanksgiving. A couple of days before the race I aggravated my sciatic nerve which caused immense pain in my leg and numbness in my foot and toes during the race. After several doctors visits, a MRI and a nerve test it was concluded, that most likely, I did something to my piriformis muscle which is putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. The only thing that will help is time and lots and lots of stretching. So that is what I have been doing. Plus I continue to build my muscle strength by going to the gym and lifting weights.
Last Fall I created a mini-bucket list for myself. Included on it was to run the Warrior Dash which will take place in Maryland on Mother's Day weekend. So last Wednesday night I registered for the race. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. Some of the obstacles look pretty intense requiring a lot of upper body strength. The good news is I can run around the obstacles if I don't feel like I can handle them. If you decide to skip an obstacle it takes you out of being able to place in the top 25 which would move you on to the national race. Ha -- like that would be a possibility for me.
So I'm going to try it -- Run and crawl and trudge through the mud. Test my balance and courage and strength to see if I can pull myself up and over a wall. It will be great fun and an test of my grit and endurance. I will have to dig deep and presevere. But the best part is I get a free beer at the end of the race. I can't wait!
