Well... Today is the big day -- My birthday! I am the big four - nine. Only one more year until I'm 50. The past couple of years, leading up to this day, have been a struggle for me.The older I get, the more I realize how short and very, very precious life is. So I have been working on living life to the fullest. I created my bucket list, and started checking items off.
But this next year I felt was going to be tough so I decided to distract myself. I vowed to not dwell on my age but on the things I still haven't done. So I created my 50 Before 50 list.
Most of the things on this list are pretty simple things that most people have done or tried -- but not me.
Today I explained to my teen-aged son about this list, and what it was all about. He asked, "What is on the list?" So, I named a few things off. When I said I've never had a Slurpee from 7-11 his jaw dropped. He still can't believe I have never in my life had a Slurpee, so he decided that is what we had to do today.
We headed to our local 7-11, and my two boys walked me through the process of getting a Slurpee. It was cute how they had to teach me how to do something so simple and everyday!
First, they said, ask the clerk for a cup. Then put on the lid. I actually would have done this wrong by putting on the lid last.
Then turn the knob. I was a little hesitant, and my son laughed at me.
Now my small Slurpee cup was full of Wild Cherry Slurpee.
Next step -- give it a taste.
As you can see my son was very anxious for my response. Well... I don't think I was really missing anything -- but now I know. The texture was different then I expected, but it was just too sweet for me. Now I can say I tried it.
While we were at 7-11 my son want two Red Bull's. I said, No Way! He told me he didn't want to drink them, instead he wanted them for the codes for some game.
Guess what... I have never tasted Red Bull either. So today was a two for one! Even though it wasn't on my list, I wasn't going to pass it up. Needless to say I think I will stick with Red Wine!
Stay tuned as I count down my "50 Before 50" list...
#37 check off the list... Only 49 left to go, and I have 364 days left.
