Last week I was searching the Internet for purple accessories for my Jeep. Specifically, purple grille inserts. I found this cool Raven's Jeep and tracked down the owner - Adams Jeep of Maryland. So I headed up to meet with Chuck in the Adams Extreme Shop - a shop voted the Best off-road shop in the Mid-Atlantic. I had absolutely no intention of buying anything other than the grille inserts.
Once I arrived a salesman saw that I was drooling like a kid in the candy shop with absolute pure love in my eyes. The next thing I know -- I'm in a 3 inch lifted, Red Rubicon going for a test drive. I was instantly hooked. All the tension, stress and agony left my body. I knew what I had to do.
For months I've been wanting all the awesome capabilities of a Rubicon - sway bar disconnect, 4:10 gears, 4 to 1 transfer case, axle locks, two Dana 44's --- Not one but TWO, and those Rubi tires. But to do all that to my Sahara, it would have taken years and lots and lots of research, plus the help from fellow Jeepers. All that was way beyond my pay grade. I agonized over it everyday trying to come up with a way to do it. It never crossed my mind to go buy a Rubicon, although I really, really wanted one. I just thought it was a far off dream out of my financial reach.
So (sigh) I continued to have that deep yearning inside me knowing it would never happen. I would just remind myself too be happy with what I have. Don't get me wrong I loved my Sahara. Her capabilities were amazing. But I had a dream and my new life's motto -- Life is Too Short!
So, when I found Rich at Adams Jeep of Maryland it was like finding a Genie in a Bottle. He is definitely a wish granter. When he uttered the words "Trade your Jeep and get a new one" and "I can make it work for you", he had me hook, line and sinker. Three days later I caught the biggest fish of my life. But I had a lot of help from the Best Husband of the Century.
I test drove a Hydro Blue Rubicon with manual transmission and a Black Rubi with automatic transmission. I was leaning towards the Blue Rubi for money reasons, it was less expensive.
Remember I'm a stay at home mom - no job. Well, okay! --Yes I know I have the toughest, hardest job on the planet, but remember our pay is very, very low. So my husband, the one who knows me best, convinced me to go with the Black one. He told me I should listen to all my Jeep friends who gave me their opinions on the manual vs. automatic and besides he doesn't like the blue.
I can't believe I'm going to say this but he was absolutely right. Shhh, don't tell him. The Black Rubicon was my dream Jeep and he knew it and he came through. The best part is this Jeep is in my name, it's really, really my Jeep.
So, now it's time to say good-bye to my Sahara. It's a bittersweet good-bye. I had some unbelievably, amazing times in that Jeep. It's really hard to give her up. But I know she will find some other great Jeeper who will love her just as much as I do.
Okay, so I can't believe I'm telling you this -- but I am actually tearing up as I write this. I almost feel like I lost a family member. Yeah I know autos don't have feelings but this isn't just your ordinary car... it's a Jeep for gosh sakes.
But now it's time to move on. Time to build my Rubicon and hit the trails. First things first... I will go back up and get my Barricade Trailforce HD bumper and my Barricade Rock Sliders and get them put on the Rubicon. Then the skies the limit.
In the meantime in case you are wondering... Yes the Rubicon can fit my groceries in it just like my Sahara did. Whew! Not just a wheeler but it can be a grocery getter too!
Oh and if you decide to buy a Jeep... Please head up to Adams Jeep of Maryland and see Rich. If you buy it tell them Jeep Momma sent you. I'll get a referral fee. Then I can buy more Jeep Parts!
