When I bought my first Jeep back in May of 2013, I never realized what an amazing community I was joining. I have become part of a family that looks out for each other, supports each other, and is willing to go that extra mile for a fellow Jeeper. It restores my faith in humanity, the fact that complete strangers will reach out to help each other and become life long friends.
One particular story that has tugged at my heart -- is the story of little Reid, a fighter who has endured more than most of us will in a life time, and he hasn't even had his first birthday yet.
Reid was born with an extraordinarily devastating disease Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB). It is a very rare tissue disorder that causes terribly painful blisters, and the tearing of skin and mucous membranes. Reid has astronomical day-to-day costs as well as hospital visits.
He has recently undergone a bone marrow transplant at the University of Minnesota Hospital, and has been in and out of the hospital. He is continuing to fight, but the medical costs and future medical costs are unbelievably high.
Reid's father is an off-roader from Georgia and the Jeep/Off-road community have banned together to help this family. Crawling for Reid, an off-road charity event to benefit Reid Davis Underwood, and to raise awareness about Epidermolysis Bullosa will be held on March 14 at 8am at the Adventure Off Road Park in South Pittsburg, Tennessee.
This will be a great event. The raffle will be huge with donations from various 4x4 and aftermarket distributors. Check out the JKForum for some of the donors. I hear this park is phenomenal with tons of hill climbs, exposed rock and trails for all levels of drivers and rigs. Anyone close by is invited to this great event and cause.
